Injection Safety
Medical injections are the most common healthcare procedure worldwide. When necessary and performed correctly, medical injections can save lives. However, if performed incorrectly, medical injections and related procedures can transmit harmful infectious diseases. WHO estimates that up to 160,000 human immunodeficiency virus {HIV), 4.7 million hepatitis C, and 1 6 million hepatitis B infections each year are attributable to these practices.
There is therefore an urgent need to raise awareness of the issue amongst consumers and health care service providers with an aim to;
• reduce unsafe injection practices
• implement proper waste management practices
• increase the safety of health workers and patients/consumers
• Reduce demand for injections
