Hand Hygiene in Schools & Communities
Washing hands regularly with soap is one of the easiest and most effective way to prevent and control the spread of many illnesses. Good hand hygiene reduces the risk of diseases and conditions like flu, COVID 19, diarrhea, food poisoning and healthcare-associated infections being passed from person to person.
CHAIN believes that children can be very good ambassadors for health literacy and patient safety once they are empowered early in life. It is also aware that skills are not built in one day nor are knowledge and attitudes. Therefore, CHAIN has prioritized engaging and empowering children through hand hygiene campaigns. It is also integrated in the orphans and vulnerable children programme. CHAIN works with 10 primary schools and 2 secondary schools in Kampala, Wakiso and Kiboga districts in Uganda.
